Trading in Financial Markets (Equities, Currencies, Interest Rates, Commodities and Credit) involves a significant amount of pressure and stress. Traders typically work under sub optimal conditions that involve high levels of noise, multiple data interfaces, interruptions and sleep deprivation. None of these factors are inducive to good rational decision making, high levels of concentration and prudence in the exercise of risk, let alone good financial performance.

Sustained, high levels of stress, have a significant and negative impact on performance, long term health outcomes and risk appetite. The build up of adrenaline, high levels of cortisol and the absence of sufficient levels of dopamine combine to lead traders in to the reckless risk taking zone, where taking risk becomes more of an emotional response rather than a calculated and considered position. This leads to diminishing financial performance and negative health outcomes for traders. Whilst many traders adopt their own approach to managing these pressures they rarely manage the impact of them in the moment, when it matters most.

At MIND Peak Performance, we employ our state of the art neuro coaching program that has been designed specifically to assist Traders to identify their levels of stress and move themselves back in the peak performance zone in real time to improve their trading decisions and revenue.

The other challenge traders experience is being able to concentrate sufficiently at peak times to make good trading decisions. The human brain is not designed to multi task, yet traders are bombarded with information from multiple sources, are required to process all this information to make a rational and high stakes decisions, all under high pressure circumstances. Through the use of the latest technology and research in Neuroscience, we train traders brains to improve their levels of concentration, visual and auditory attentiveness and working (short term) memory. This improves Traders ability to concentrate intensely at peak times, improving their ability to process multiple information sources and make better trading decisions.

This approach, which we call Trading Science(TM), has been deployed in the Global Markets Division of one of Australia’s largest Commercial Banks with astounding results. We measured the performance of a trading team in the 5 months prior to Neuro-coaching and again following the 5 month Neuro-coaching program. Whilst all Traders reported more difficult trading conditions during the Neuro-coaching period, the performance of those traders on the coaching program improved by 170% over the first 5 months prior to the coaching. When we compared the results to a comparable team trading the same products they demonstrated no difference in performance between the two periods. In addition we also recorded the follwoing results from our qualitative data analysis:

Their sense of personal well being and quality of their personal life
Their level of engagement with the organisation
Their intention to stay with their employer as a result of the program

In addition, when asked to rate how likely they would be to continue in the program, 95% of participants responded with a score of between 8 and 10. When asked how likely they would be to recommend the program to a friend of colleague, their scores averaged 8.5 out of 10.
